Halloween (1978)
Finally reviewing this classic. First of all, this movie is so ridiculous that is amazing in some ways. Can we start with how JLC looking like she is twice the age of a high schooler lollll I mean that's a lot of the other cast too, but especialllllly JLC lollll. Makes me laugh whenever she first appears in the movie. Also, MM is the worst fucking serial killer as far as dexterity is concerned. Not to mention, like the easiest to beat! JLC had a literal coat hanger and still managed to injure him to the point she escaped. The oneeee thing MM has going for him is that he is as resilient as they come. Dude just kept getting knocked down over and over again, but nothing is stopping him from being a terror! I can see how this movie had it's scares back in the day, but seeing this movie again in 2024 is really a different experience. It's so hokeyyyyy and some of the acting is just so cringyyyyy. In 1978, I bet this scared some people (kids especially). Not gonna lie, I had a dream in my adulthood that involved MM, but he was like a staggered image of himself? Like when images move so quickly you can still see their previous state in the frame? It was such a bizarre dream...The best thing about this movie and the franchise is the relationship between JLC and MM. Like damn, they still be at it like 40 years later. That's probably the only thing saving this franchise. If JLC wasn't in them anymore, I really don't know if they would have made so many sequels. I'm going to get so much hate, but I am not the biggest Halloween franchise fan. I don't think every classic needs to be worshipped! Was it good for its time? Absolutely! Is it a movie I crave to watch over and over again? Not really. Did I enjoy it? Of course.
Shudder rating: 5 out of 5 skulls (I wouldn't expect different)
My rating: 3.8 out of 5 skulls (I'm going to get murdered by the horror community)
