I Saw the TV Glow

I have to admit, I did not really like this movie at first. I went into it completely blind and knew nothing about what to expect. I thought it was a cool movie don't get me wrong, but I didn't expect it to be so deep. Now knowing that it is heavily revolved around the notion of not living your authentic life as someone in the LGBTQ+ community, I understand the movie a lot more. Although this was not an in your face type of horror movie, there is a true horror in not living your life as your authentic self and realizing that you have spent so much time in your life as someone you don't really identify with. It took me a little bit to understand the role of Mr. Melancholy. I know understand it as the depression that looms over someone living as generically as possible. That depression is killing the true self even further; hence, Isabel being buried alive but still being slowly killed by the poison (the Luna juice). I think some of the scenes were definitely creepy though. Bringing back that old Goosebumpsy 90s feel sort of brought out the childhood feeling of seeing it for the first time. I think we were all a little creeped out as kids seeing that. The end thoughhhhhh dang, that one was a heavy one. It should Owen going through life to eventually succumb to an average male life and being a "contributing member of society" (or to grow up if you will). When he buys the flat screen tv he notices that The Pink Opaque is not as twisted as he once remembered. I think this had a couple meanings. One being that what we experience as kids will always be a lot more vivid than what they seem like as adults. Two being that The Pink Opaque truly changed that realm has been closed off to Owen mentally with his committed normal lifestyle. Well, there is a lot to interpret here for sure! I enjoyed the film a lot more the second time and it is 100% worth watching.
