Saw
Pretty much just going through all the horror movies on HBO Max now that I have access mwhahaha. I feel like this is the equivalent of what Terrifier is today for what this movie was in the early 2000s. Not nearllllly as gory but there really aren't too many movies during that era that had this type of gore/psychological torture. Every time I see the foot scene I think of that scene in Yes Man where Jim Carry is like "Just cut it off already!". Dude was just depressed as hell laying on the couch just like I was watching this movie lollll. I think the depression rate has skyrocketed during the last two weeks. Anyways, this movie definitely keeps your attention. There is a lot going on! All the connections of the people involved in Jigsaw's little game and all of his little torture games...gotta pay attention. I have to say though. This guy has wayyyyy too big of a chip on his shoulder to be torturing ungrateful people. I mean, I guess he also had something going on with his brain but still! Just imagine kidnapping and holding someone hostage then putting them through all that torture just because they didn't thank their lucky stars that they got more time on the Earth. I'm not a huge fan of body gore but I feel like this movie has enough story and phycological play to break up the gore a bit. I can see why this movie has such a huge fan base. It sort of broke that wall on what gore could become in horror movies. I should say broke the wall for mainstream horror.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 2 and a half out of 5 stars...ouch (again, not a huge amount of reviewers)
My rating: 3 out of 5 stars. I liked the movie but it's not a go to :(
