Flowers of Evil

WTF Shudder! You only put 12/13 episodes up! I had to go look up what the last episode was about...that was pretty messed up and you know it. With that out of the way, I have mixed feelings about this anime. What drew me to it was the animation style. It's the kind of animation that is done on top of live action. It was pretty minimalistic which I think was done intentionally because Kasuga is such a plain Jane sort of character. I thought it was done like that maybe because that's all he really saw in the world. He was so devoid of real meaning in life and maybe it reflected how bland he saw the world around him? Or maybe it was just crappy animation and I'm defending the crap out of it. Either way it was pretty unique. Now as far as the plot goes, man this was psychologically slow and painful. Adolescence can be so painful, and it really highlighted the hidden guilt a teenager could be going through. Also, the Stockholm syndrome that Kasuga displays for (omg I totally spaced on her name...I know it starts with an N). It shows his desire to leave his boring bland life and live a life of "color" with her. He sees that even if he could have the girl of his dreams, unless he fills his life with adventure, he will never be happy. It's odd that he is self-aware enough to see that he desires this different life with the one girl, but he probably sees that he can't make the changes in his own life. This was definitely an interesting story, and I may end up picking up the manga to continue the story. Some people really hated this movie in the Shudder comments! I didn't think it was that bad!
