Pearl
Another beautiful classic from A24 and another extraordinary performance by Mia Goth. They did such a great job with the cinematography, and I love that this whole story is a trilogy played by the same actress. She's pretty much the ideal actor for A24 films because they tend to be overwhelming raw (that's what she said). This movie also had the quarantine aspect which was relatable during the time of its release. Ok...the famous scene where Pearl bangs that scarecrow then yells "I'M MARRIED!" is the funnnnniest line everrrrr like what girl. I mean it showed how freaking delusional this girl was from the very start of the movie. I think being isolated on a farm on top of quarantine would do a number of anyone (especially a teenager). I really did feel bad for the teens who were not able to have a normal graduation due to the pandemic. It must have been pretty difficult and depressing. That combined with someone who is so consumed with having stardom is a dangerous mix. Did she want to be a star as much as she wanted to just escape that damn farm? Not saying murder was the right thing to do, but I guess I can see where she was going with everything. I really hate that the mom was like "do you think I chose this life for myself?" referring to the vegetable dad and the farm that now falls on her. Like lady! Do not guilt trip your daughter and prevent her from having any yearning for happiness just because this is what happened to you! I know some parents are really like that and that is terrible. I mean Pearl took care of her ultimately. Damn and the scenes where she is just pretending her mom is affectionate towards her even as a corpse...yikes. This is def part of my top 10 favorite horror movies! One day I will make an actual list lol.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars! I'm only surprised because I can see a lot of horror snobs saying that this movie was overrated.
My rating: 4.9 out of 5 stars! I cannot be giving out a full fiver all the time...
