Mind Body Spirit
This was way more of a fun horror movie than one to take seriously (if that makes sense). Some of the reviews I watched for this movie really got into some of the logistics of the dark web red room and content creation. I just think that, while yes, have those accuracies make the movie more authentic and enjoyable to watch, not having these accuracies didn't deter the experience for me. I really like the story if anything (although I am a sucker for creative movie interfaces which is what drew me into this movie to begin with). The granddaughter being influenced by her grandmother's spiritual journey and trying to be more immersed in it was a nice, creative touch. I do wish, however, they went into more of the story of what happened between the mom and the grandma. Like the mom seemed to have a not-so-great relationship with either her mom or her daughter (related issues?). She was basically like don't think your grandma was so good...but I'm going to help you decipher whatever she wrote in her book...that I told you not to read...but I want your approval so bad (plus you look distraught as hell)...that I help you do it? A big positive about the movie (that I will agree with one of the reviews I saw) is that the main character and her bitch friend did a really good performance. They both sort of enveloped opposite ends of the wellness influencing spectrum. One being the extreme fitness muscle gain intense every day is a challenge type of gal while the other was much more of a stay grounded to the earth and inner health over just being bulky type of gal. I think they both did a really good job at playing those characters. Some people shat on the fake ads that happened in between segments, but I sort of liked them! I remember watching part of this movie on my phone waiting for the train and I thought Shudder introduced legit ads and I was going to sue. Was this movie cheesy? Yes. Was this movie fun? Yes. Were there a lot of loose ends? Yes. Was this movie meant to be taken seriously? I don't think so.
Shudder rating: 3 out of 5 skulls
My rating: 3.8 out of 5 skulls (I said it was a fun movie!)
