The Monkey
I am one of those people who have to let everyone know that I read the short story in the Skeleton Crew when I was a teenager. Something about reading the book before seeing the movie makes you superior? I wasn't expecting this movie to be so campy! I guess most Stephen King movies are a degree of campy, but the ratio of campy to creepy was def higher on the campy end. I think they did a great job making this little monkey so cute but so off-putting...like those eyes. They have either seen everything or have no concept of perception. At one point in the movie, I thought they might reveal that the brothers were the same person just different sides of one's personality! I just looked it up and they are played by the same character! Ha! I knew they looked alike lolllll I sometimes think I suffer from face blindness though, so I had to make sure. Did they do that on purpose to make it seem like a personality thing?? That's a little confusing. As far as the movie as a whole I think a lot of it focuses on how death is not only inevitable, but that energy is chaotic and unconfined. The fact that death was wished upon both brother by each brother and each time death happened to someone showed that you should be careful about what you put out there. They Monkey, in a way, sort of represents the chaos of all of the world's energies clashing together. It also represents the suddenness of life. It's a mash between that the lure of cursed items I feel. There definitely was something "evil" about this monkey as it had living attributes to it. The Monkey had blood coming out of it! Something isn't right...I'm going to be honest. I think they did a little bit much with the jokes. Some parts were pretty funny! But some parts I was like ok, I wanna actually see something creepy or feel some suspense. IT did a really good job (the remake) at balancing the two elements, so I expected a bit more of that from this movie.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 4 out of 5 stars?? I'm actually surprised
My rating: 3.8 out of 5 stars (lollll I guess my score was only .2 lower)
