Black Swan
Um, first of all, gay. Second of all, still hot. Third, I really liked this movie the second time around! I sort of forgot about this movie until I was scrolling Hulu and saw it in the horror section. I guess it is a horror. I mean a psychological horror for sure. At first, I didn't really like the casting. Even though both the ladies are beautiful I just felt like they were cast for beauty (my grandpa and I gripe about how American acting is based on looks and we lose a lot of the rawness) BUT I gave this another shot, and I think they both played their roles well. The story is quite beautiful and tragic (my kind of story). I love the perfectionism in N. Portman's role. She legit seems like a perfectionist so she played that role super well. I wasn't sure how much I liked M. Kunis's role, but she did pretty well at it. Maybe I just don't like the character very much hahaha. Oh god, am I a white swan? I do tend to strive towards perfectionism, but I can let loose (so I say). Damn! The few scenes that involved body horror really surprised me. I will say the scene where her legs bend backwards was pretty funny. They were legit making her into a swan lolllll I love the whole story of battling yourself and letting yourself fall into psychosis for your passions. I mean that's a tough career field. To be so easy replaced and all so have an age limit in a sense where you are ostracized (swanisized) for being above the norm age range. The ending was super good and was perfect for the story. It was literal but is also a metaphor about how we can literally kill ourselves chasing perfection or our dreams. I really wanted to know more about the relationship between white swan and her mom. They both carried a lotttt of tension and there was definitely guilt tripping. Perhaps it was an ode to how moms in that scene tend to cling to their daughter's achievements and sort of keep them young in a way? Idk, but def IS NOT the vibe I wanna be around.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars (I'm actually surprised it is this high!)
My rating: 4.2 out of 5 stars (really not bad at all!)
