Exuma
This movie has been on my watchlist forever and I finally got around to it! This movie had some creepy factors to it, but this is not a movie I would typically define as "scary". I think this was intended to be an edgier psychological horror. With all that said, the cast is what makes this movie. The cast is not only unique but also play together very well. The concept is also unique (at least to me, maybe this is more common in Korean culture), I don't know how much American horror is tied to the location of where a body is buried. The whole premise of this movie is based off of a family being tormented by the patriarch being buried in a very sinister location. It appears that the spirit of the family member that was buried there was buried there on purpose because they were a traitor in one of the wars. The site itself is not the haunting factor, rather it's the fact that the family member was buried on top of an ancient warrior (who was probably torturing the soul of the family member buried with it). I think it was more common back in the day to think of ways to torment the spirit in the afterlife since more people believed in life after death back then. They actually got a good deal on torment with this one because as mentioned before the soul of the traitorous family member was not the only one tormented, but this affected the psych of the family members. In fact, the family member's spirit eventually escapes from the coffin and seeks revenge by murdering his family descendants. Now, the spirit of the Samuri warrior that was buried underneath the family member is cast into the female medium's partner to better understand the intention of that spirit. This is more typical in what you see in American horror. However, the set of rituals that go into trying to route the spirit back to its original vessel are way more unique than the typical American cross, holy water...etc. Although not the most realistic, I did really enjoy that all the main characters survived and recovered from all the events. They remained family/friends afterwards and it was a heart-warming touch after going through that whole predicament. AGAIN, not realistic, but sort of a nice touch after expecting at least half of the main characters to die. Just the family that was tied to the grave site had it coming for them lolll
