Hair Extensions (Exta)

Leave it to this movie (and Bad Hair which I'll review at another time) to make hair freaking scary! I mean one minute it's just a hair extension and the next the hair is going through your eyes and mouth or even decapitated! I love the whole concept of the girl seeking revenge/showing what happened to her via hair. I think J-Horror especially sheds light on the victim wanting other people to experience their pain or at least have a window to see how much they endured. There were a lot of different parts to this movie. Let's start with Mami just being dropped off to her aunt's house...poor girl is a victim of an irresponsible and abusive young mother. She represents a purity that the girl with the never-ending hair has a soft spot for. She was also a victim at a young stage in life and sought justice by killing both Mami's mother and her mother's boy toy via wispy hair all over the place. Next, we have the two main girls (one who is the sister) who take Mami in. The sister works at the salon where hair is obviously very prominent in the workplace. This is important because the mortician who eventually steels the young girl with the hair curse seeks this place out to purchase his new hair extensions. He even starts wearing the hair! Not gonna lie, I think he has a bit of a hair fetish the way he was sniffing all that hair...In fact, he pleas with Mami and her aunt to stay with him and the cursed hair girl and they could live off of her together happily forever. When she rejects his offer, he, of course, goes bananas and has even become infused with hair himself! Cursed hair girl is not having this is and she is determined to protect Mami leading to a full dismemberment of the mortician via hair. Unfortunately, some of the clients and employees at the sister's hair salon were victims as well. The hair literally went through the ear of one of the stylists and showed her all the images of her last moments. Her organs were not only harvested, but she looked to be tortured as well. The blood and the smile of the mortician is what led the cursed girl to unleash her hair since it reminded her of the monster during her death. This was such a unique movie and, yeah!, hair really is kind of creepy (especially when it's spewing out of your eyes and mouth and filling whole rooms. Not to mention, the hair in that one scene lifted that girl all the way up then just dropped her on the ground! I also found the scene where the mortician cut part of one of the hair extensions and blood started coming out very symbolic of the real tie between the girl and the hair. Phew, lots to say about this movie because there is so much going on lol also one of the cutest endings :)

Shudder rating: 4 out of 5 skulls
