Ma
"Don't make me drink aloneeee, don't make me drink aloneeee" lolllll that scene always takes me out. This is such an interesting little horror movie because it is honestly so funny, but the story of it is actually pretty dark. This is ultimately a revenge tale that goes back allllll the way to high school (some of the best years and some of the worst years of people's lives). It is really sad what happened to our little Sue. She was def the target of bullying in her high school days and sort of a plaything for all the popular kids. All you have to do is be an outcast and socially awkward, I guess. She doesn't forget though...oh no no. She takes revenge to a GENERATIONAL level. She takes revenge on the kids of all those mofos that made fun of her in high school. Even the ones who weren't actually bullies but were merely associated with the group. We see Ma's jealousy start to take over when the new girl in town instantly becomes accepted by the coooooool kids. Not only that, but she already has a love interest (and I think the kid is decently popular?). Does that happen btw?? Like being instantly liked and rising through the tiers of popularity almost instantaneously? This is a movie, I know, but seriously, does that happen lol? Her revenge is slow and doesn't seem like anything until you piece everything together. She is just hosting basement parties and buying alcohol for underaged kids...no biggie, right? Strange...yes. Do lonely people do strange things?...yes. However, this eventually gets turned into a scenario where the teens are drugged, slightly mutilated, and almost killed in her basement. She had already killed one of the kid's dads (her high school crush who she thought she was giving a bj to but it was someone else in the dark). She had also killed his little side piece who was a bitch in high school and her boss. The crazy comes out people. She is eventually killed by the new girl in town because (how dare she) compare her to her mother (who wasn't like that bad of a person, but she wanted her individuality super bad). I mean she was also saving the little girl from her mom who had been drugging her as sort of a Gypsy Rose predicament. I thought that added a bit too much to the story, but I can see sort of why they put it in there. Just another way to show that Sue is NOT well. Is this a scary movie? No. Will it make you laugh? Probably. Was it disturbing? If you really sit down and think about the whole movie- very much so.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 3 out of 5 stars
My rating: 3.9 out of 5 stars. I can't put it in my 4-star tier, however, this movie takes me out sometimes, so I had to give it the highest 3 possible.
