Talk to Me

I heard they are making a sequel! This movie was sort of unique and not too shabby! Is it my favorite horror movie? No, but it is a super fun watch. I like that they brought some other prop than a Ouija board to summon the spirits. I also like that there was an option to speak to the spirits orrrr straight up be possessed. I mean teens will be teens idk getting controlled by a spirit was never (and still isn't) my thing. The way this movie portrays the emptiness of the afterlife makes us see why they are so eager to stay in the material world. Damn, that poor kid though...that spirit really wanted to mess him up. Also, the dog scene ugh gross. That Christian virgin boy is going to have some weird kinks in adulthood. I guess I feel like this movie is a bit all over the place at times and maybe that is why it hasn't really stuck with me. With that being said, the ending is actually one of my favorite horror endings! Like the very last scene where Mia is summoned by the same hand that basically took her life was really good. The whole lead up to Mia's "mom" (who knows if that was really the mom since the spirits shape shift) pretty much convincing Mia to kill her dad after painting a super sinister pic of him was great. I also feel like the very beginning of the movie could have been tied in more concretely with other parts of the movie (or maybe I was just too dumb to pick up the entire significance of that scene). I will say that the acting and cast was pretty good. They were all sort of unique characters and not your typical glamazons you see in so many movies today (gripe gripe about pretty people). I think I will appreciate this movie more after the sequel comes out. I'm hoping it provides a bit more context and pull off some even better possession scenes.

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars (woah! was not expecting that high of a rating...am I just a hater?)

My rating: 3.7 out of 5 stars (I told you I didn't hate it! Just not one to go braggin on about)
