The Amityville Horror (1979)

Uh lamest ending. Like everyone escapes safely? Still a pretty good movie though. What makes this movie so iconic is that is based off of true events. There actually was a family that was murdered by one of the sons in that house and a book was written about it afterwards. There were no accounts of paranormal activity happening after that family moved in post-murder so kind of sus. Alright, some of the best scenes in the movie. Those flies in that scene with the priest in that room was kind of creepy. It kind of puts an olfactory scare to the whole thing. Like I was eating and that scene came on and my hunger slightly decreased. Can't help but associate rotting flesh with flies and idk the smell sort of was imagined in my mind. Then there is the whole thing with the daughter and Jody the child ghost that adds another good creep factor to the film. The whole portal to hell element in the basement was a classic. I couldn't help but think of that Treehouse of Horror Simpsons episode where they move into this haunted house. The walls start bleeding, and a voice tells them to get out then there was the random portal that appeared lolll idk I mean this is a good creepy movie, but there isn't anything that unique about it other than the fact that it is based off a huge true crime event. There's actually "My Amityville Horror" I've been meaning to watch on Shudder and now I'm prob gonna watch that. I think the movie should have had more focus on the murder that happened in the house beforehand. They had some scenes, of course, but I just felt like there were so many slow scenes where a jump backwards in time for more than 30 seconds could have helped the pace of the movie. Juuuuust my opinion though.

IMDb rating: Idk why I couldn't find the Rotten Tomatoes rating so 6/10 stars divided by 2 3/5 stars.

My rating: 3.4 out of 5 stars. Movie's 'ight.
