The Clovehitch Killer

This movie did such a good job of being creepy without really doing too much! It's a pretty straight forward film that doesn't really have an explosive moment of "danggggg that dude may really be the killer." You are directed to believe that the dad is the killer from the beginning as you view him through the eyes of his son. The dad is representation of the BTK killer (or at least was hugely inspired by his acts) which adds another creep element for sure. There is a lot of focus on how the dad has two sides. One side is very integrated into the community as a boy scout troop leader, family man, and active church goer. The other side is "primal" (I'm so tired of giving men any sort of reasoning for killing so I put it in quotes as the dad had mentioned his "urges"). I was also shook that someone as careful as the BTK killer had bondage photos in his vehicle (which led to the investigation to begin with). I mean yeah it's movie and that might not have really happened, but I didn't really feel like something like that would occur, but hey, all killers slip up. I also like how the movie was also divided in a way that we follow the son's perspective first then see sort of a private window into the dad's freaky life. I know I have already stated this, but I really love the simplicity of the movie. It's up front and doesn't rely on plot twists or special effects to make it incredibly eerie. It's the eeriness of all this stuff happening (and had happened) right under not only the family's nose, but in front of the entire neighborhood. Not gonna lie, this dude sort of reminds me of my MAGA uncle who has lived in the same house and neighborhood since I was born. Pretty quiet, but large guy who is involved in the church and seems to be a family man. Dude is nuts (but my dad is crazier lol). Ugh the ending of this movie was beautiful in its own way as well. Like I wanted the dad to be exposed, but it was so fair for those kids to just kill him and let the family and town live in peace. Dude's already caused enough destruction!
