Caveat
Another movie with so many twists and turns! We start off with this dude Isaac who doesn't seem to know what he is getting into. He is requested by his friend to watch his niece since her father (his brother) had been murder and the mom has gone missing. First off, Issac gets to the place and it's a freaking remote island lolllll. Not only that, but he has to be chained the whole time?? I guess he really needed the money so he goes for the job. The whole place is unsettling and the niece is either seen with her hands covering her eyes as she is cowering or she is just wandering around with a crossbow...so yeah...it's real inviting in there. She even breaks his fingers when he starts poking his hands around the house (literally...so gross. I hate finger scenes more than anything in horror I think). Isaac eventually finds that the mother is dead and is in the house. He gets on the little intercom and is telling his friend that the mom is dead and he thinks Olga (the niece) did it. We thennnn find out that Isaac had an accident and can't remember certain things. Isaac had been to that house before and the brother was the one who hired him to kill him. Ok, I had to look up why Isaac was brought back to the house and it was to ensure he really did not remember anything. We find out even later that Moe (Olga's dad) pushed him from a balcony and that's why he has memory loss. Anyways, it is a little unclear as to whether Moe killed Olga's father alone or had Isaac help him. Her own story was a little crazy too. They really didn't go into too much but I guess she locked her husband up with that restraint and swallowed the key? Also, Isaac was hired to kill Moe's brother by locking him in the basement but when he got there he was already a mess in the basement and the door was locked from the opposite side?? Sounds like Moe and his bro were in some shady business and Moe CLEARLY only looks out for himself. The ending of this movie was awesome and spoooooky. The mom's corpse is def animated throughout the movie and one of the ending scenes is her slightlllllly peaking out from the side of the wall to get her freaking revenge. Isaac escapes while Olga is left tethered like a dog. Isaac actually unties a dog at the very end and take it with him continuing the poetry of it all.
Shudder rating: 4 out of 5 skulls
My rating: 3.9 out of 5 skulls (so many good moments in the movie, but was a bit too murky and vague in parts and that drove me nuts)
