Phantasm

A cult classic that is just freaking weird. I would definitely not consider this to be a scary movie (even being as desensitized as I am). Like it was intentionally cheesy in a lot of parts. It was an interesting movie! I'll have to give it that. It is very trippy especially because we find out that everything is a dream at the end. It explains why Mike is so clingy to Jody. Man, poor Mike though. His parents died and he had two brothers die? No wonder he is going freaking insane. I have to admit...I have not seen any of the sequels to this movie, so I am interested to know more of the origin story of the tall man. I really hope they dive into the other little universe of the Ewok lookin' people in the sequels as well. As far as how much I liked the movie, I would say that it was an entertaining watch but didn't blow me away with its creativity or uniqueness. Yeah, the story is pretty cool, but I wanted more explained, I guess. I do like the creepy funeral parlor though and I like the whole moving finger in the yellow goo in the box bit. I mean, there were a lot of little things I liked in the movie, but as I already stated, the entirety of the movie didn't leave that much of an imprint on me. This is a good movie to have on at like a Halloween party, but not really a movie to take too seriously? I know there would be hate if I said this at like a horror movie society event or something, but hey! I am entitled to my opinion! The ending was also pretty good, and I actually didn't predict that this whole thing was a dream sequence so, there, there's another pat on the back for the movie. I also have to remember that movies back then also tried hard to be weird and memorable, and we just don't have that same drive anymore in movies. Like I feel like movies are unsettling now but not just wacky. Anything wacky I feel is tied into something retro anyways so...idk, is originality just dead now? Is that why we are all depressed? Probably.
