Another fun Shudder film that I liked more the second time I watched it. Not gonna lie, I do like some of these cheesy horror movies that are vlog/influencer inspired. This movie was def more of a funny thriller than a full horror (well I guess there were some murder scenes lol). Man, this is one of those movies where the girl is wayyyy more into the girl than the girl is into the guy. What I feel like this movie lacked (and maybe this was intentionally done) is the history of the Superhost. Yeah, they said that the place used to be her dad's, and she got really close to an old couple, but I wanted like a full segment of how she became so cray cray. They made this girl just so bizarre without any real explanation. I guess some people are just crazy but usually there is a bit more of a back story. Like Annie Wilks in Misery, for instance, we don't get too much of her childhood in the movie but we do see the life she had before being obsessed with Paul Sheldon. They didn't show enough of the Superhost's life outside of her residence. Also, the lady who plays the lady who got a bad review from the influencers is like every movie I see now lol. I did appreciate some of the brutality in the scenes for being tame (yet unsettling). I wasn't expecting the girl's throat to be slit right in front of her fiancé's eyes! I feel like they had to something like that to make this movie have a bit more edginess to it. This would be a great movie to watch with someone who isn't necessarily into horror, but may just want to watch something a bit weird and unsettling. As I mentioned before, this was a fun watch. This doesn't go down in the books as a very memorable movie though. The main actress did do a fantastic job!
Shudder rating: 4 out of 5 skulls (I'm actually surprised it got 4 skulls!)
My rating: 3.3 out of 5 skulls
