The Cabin in the Woods

This is one of those movies I really wished I liked more than I did. The story is good, the cast is good, everything seems good but idk?? I like don't think this movie stuck with me that much for some reason. Maybe it was a little hard for me to wrap my head around how all those teens were targets and were influenced from the very beginning. It sounds like I hate this film, but I really don't. It's a really fun watch and honestly had a good number of twists and turns. It just didn't seem...logical? But is a movie that's premise is to keep the ancient Gods satisfied by sacrificing 4 specific personalities built on a foundation of logic? Probably not. I'll have to admit it took me a little while to figure out how the cabin, the teens, and the scientists were all tied together. It all makes sense when you see that each of the personalities of sacrifices to be made can be sort of molded to these teen personalities (loosely). Once the blood is poured into these sacrificial molds, the sacrifice is done (need to make sure the sacrifice actually dies though!). That was their major mistake. I loved and hated the ending. What I loved: it was such a bleak ending to humanity. The ancient Gods were released and everything. What I hated: humanity died because of scientists not QC'ing their work and two people saved themselves just to not save themselves lolllll. I also had no idea Sigourney Weaver directed this movie! Now...my biggest gripe of this movie. It was not scary. Like at all. I really hope they make a sequel and bring this movie back because it has so much potential. Sigourney should still be in it! They can do a lot with this movie, so fingers crossed.

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars (See, I said everyone loves this movie and I feel weird having these gripes, but I still stand by them)

My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars (that's generous because I see the potential just like I do in so many people)
