Cabin Fever
I'm still in shock that I found this movie on blue ray at a thrift store for a dollar. One of my better thrifting days that is for sure. I like this movie, but I wouldn't say I'm super crazy about the film either. I do love the corniness Eli Roth puts into his films but find myself wanting the movie to be scarier. I also like the cabin fever interpretation being a disease-oriented thing rather than claustrophobia. I was listening to a podcast that was recapping this film, and they brought up a good point that no one actually died from the disease. They all were either attacked by someone or something rather than dying from the actual infections going on in their bodies. We all know that the star in the movie is obviously the dog Dr. Mambo (love that Eli Roth is in the film as his owner). I feel like I have been talking about how I've been enjoying a lot of the movie endings I've seen, and this one also has a super good ending. The whole town is going to be infected with Paul's infected body lying in the water. The little kids are just selling this flesh wearing diseased lemonade to the town lolllll it's like awww but wait a second. Damn, some lemonade sounds so good right now. I think Eli Roth does a good job making his movies feel like they are Eli Roth movies. Like they definitely have that tone like you know you are watching a Rob Zombie movie pretty quickly into the film. This movie also had the classic 2000's era trope and definitely had some of the 2000s derogatory slang (aka just calling everything gay). I also really love that the inspiration for this film is from a real-life event where Eli got some disease that made him really itchy and affected his skin. I feel like this is a pretty approachable film with just a few scenes that might make you want to look away briefly, but I wouldn't consider this a real gory movie at all.
Rotton Tomatoes rating: 3 out of 5 stars according to like 140 people lol
My rating: 3.3 out of 5 stars. I think it deserves a little more but yeah not one of my top horror films. Still a good one though!
