Clown in a Cornfield

This movie was gorier than the book for sure. I really like that they amped it up because the book is in the Young Adult section lol I feel like some of the slashers could be considered more Young Adult like Scream or Halloween, but yeah, I didn't know how tame this movie was gonna be. The movie was better than I expected, and I was actually kind of surprised that it was shown on Joe Bob's so soon! With that being said, this movie did feel like it tried to squeeze the whole book in and rushed the end a bit. However, I was not too disappointed. This movie was not supposed to be deep at all so I wasn't upset when they didn't go into more detail at the end. I do wish they focused on the pretty boy's dad and his escape since he was the ringleader of all the Friendos. I also like the twist of there not being just one killer clown on the loose, but a whole gaggle of them! I think that is what you call a group of clowns, at least. Ok, I think I heard a rumor that they were already going to make a sequel to this movie so maybe they will go into more explanation of the Friendo cult because it was just barely touched on. The premise is that the boomers made a murderous cult to cull the bad whippersnappers and preserve their little town. It sounded like a generational thing, so this was happening to the cult's generation and so forth. The general vibe and goal of this cult was to keep the town "clean" from whatever they deemed "unfit". It's like if the boomers had the purge whenever they wanted. Sounds a bit familiar with what is going on today in the United States. We have an administration trying to preserve what they deem as "patriotic" when it really just an excuse to lift white, Christian nationalism up. I do really like the ending of finding out that hunter boy and pretty boy had a thing and got together. It's about time! I've had it with these straights hoggin' the spotlight. I remember listening to that part in the book and putting my hand to my mouth going "ooooooooooo". I feel like there isn't much more to say other than don't expect a very in-depth or meaningful movie. This was pretty campy and a good modern-day slasher. Welcome to the scary clown family, Friendo!

My rating: 3.5 out of 5 skulls (because I can give decimals to my ratings lol)
