Magic
I freaking love Anthony Hopkins in this movie. I know his best role is obviously Hannibal Lector, but damn, he really nails this role. This movie did such a good job of using barely any visual effects for making the audience feel disturbed. It was really just seeing how insane Corky really was with his doll Fats. The movie focuses on an entertainer named Corky who is a bit out of touch with reality and struggles with social interaction in many ways. He starts by doing the typical card tricks and small magic tricks like that, but no one pays attention to him. It's not until he starts doing acts with this doll named Fats, he starts getting the attention he has always wanted. All is going great until a huge agent (I forgot his offical title) says he can make him famous. He jussssst has to do a medical exam that apparently includes a mental exam. That is where Corky goes nuts and goes to his childhood town to pretty go into hiding. Then things get really juicy there as the place he is renting is owned by his high school crush. Those two get busy together (even though she is married to someone they both grew up with in high school!) The agent finally finds Corky and challenges him to make Fats shut up for 5 minutes and when he can't, Corky realizes that he looks insane and to take the power "back" he runs after the agent and kills him the doll. The agent is thrown into the lake and when the body is found by Duke, Corky eventually kills him too and tells the wife that he went out to go hunting. At this point Corky is just insane and tries to convince the wife to be with him instead of Duke. He also knows he is being fully possessed by the doll (or himself lollll) and the only way to stop himself from killing his crush is to stab himself. So, he does then poetically dies next to Fats and his crush yells to him from outside the cabin that she is ready to skip town with him and start a new life. This movie was very sad in a lot of ways. It just shows how isolated Corky has been all these years the effects of just being secluded. Sure, he was schizophrenic as well but it really showed the mental deterioration he was going through. I really think this is a unique and beautiful film and highly recommend watching it.
