Scream 2

I have to admit that I wouldn't really call myself a Scream "fan" but that is because there are so many Scream movies that it is a commitment to be a fan. With that said, this movie is probably one of my favorite horror sequels. That is probably because this movie was very meta and was aware that it was a sequel so there was a lot of creative play to some of the script. This movie takes place a couple years after the original Woodsboro murders (although I think this was getting written during the end of the first movie?) and we follow Sindey through college as Ghostface causes a freaking ruckus all over town again. We start off a movie called "Stab" that is a movie based on the book Gale wrote about the murders and we have 2 black people die right off the bat. It's like they knew they were doing this and had to go along with the whole "black people don't survive in horror movies trope". The murders continue as we see the person originally accused (Cotton) walking free and wanting not only his 15 min of fame but to also do what he can to get his name unsmeared. Dewey also makes a reappearance but is notttttt so snuggly with Gale (at least at first). Now, the movie really tries to make you think that Sidney's new bf is the new Ghostface (and yeah, he sort of looks like a villain) but we find out at the end that he is not involved. The reallll Ghostface is actually two people (just like in the first movie) but instead of 2 teenagers. It's one teenager and Billy's mom! I really like that Billy's mom wanted revenge and that no one recognized her because she had a ton of work done/lost a lot of weight. We actually see her character early on in the film as she is sort of an amateur reporter who wants Gale's expertise. We don't think much of her though and just assume she is just this annoying lady who just wants to move up in the reporting world. The teenager who was her accomplice was a guy named Mick who just wants the fame which is sort of wild in itself. Lol I actually had to look up if Derek died in that final scene in the theater because I completely forgot. Yes, he was shot by Mick in case anyone was wondering. Cotten actually "saves" Sidney by shooting and killing Billy's mom (he's a hero after all!). I was cracking up listening to this podcast describe Gale getting up from out of nowhere in the theater like an orchestra conductor. So true. I'm also glad Dewey didn't die!
