The Haunting in Connecticut
Dude, this Kyle Gallner person has been in so many horror movies. I found this movie at a thrift store on DVD and was excited to finally pop it open. I remember parts of this movie (mostly the jump scares) but not much else. The jump scares in this movie are probably some of the best! Some scenes made me literally jump in my seat. Apparently, this movie is based off of real events, and I was like what? So much is happening in this movie. We have this poor family where the son, Matt, has cancer. The whole reason they move into this new place (while still owning the old house) is because it is much closer to Matt's doctor. The mom, Sara, is in such a rush to get this new place that she accepts the offer without telling her family that some shit went down. We soon find out some of the things that had happened in this house, and I am still like so shook that they couldn't open a door in the basement and still took the house. Matt, since he is ill, I guess, is more prone to experiencing the paranormal activity in the house. That mystery room in the basement is actually an autopsy room and was used by an evil doc. We also find out about this Jonah character who was used by the doc and others to be a very powerful medium. Such a powerful medium that he is able to conjure ectoplasm which actually came out of his mouth (like the movie cover) but exploded (or something like that) killing or seriously harming everyone in the room. Jonah got scared and ran away but got stuck in the incinerator where he was burned to death. His spirit is actually the spirit keeping the bad ones at bay. Matt sees visions of Jonah and the doc throughout the film as he gets so affected that that he gets the same carvings as many of the doc victims. I'm still a little unclear about why the doc was cutting off the eyelids off all these dead corpses and marking them up. I think it was to build his own little possessed army?? Also how did no one smell all these dead bodies in the basement?? The ending was a bit lame where we have the mother and son in the smokey room and the mom reciting a prayer holding Matt. Matt's like I'm already dead!! Lollll it wasn't meant to be funny, but his character is such a diva and he looks literally so sick in all of his movies. Then the movie ended like "oh and he was cancer free and everything was fine..." Like did the entire house burn down? I feel like the movie just kind of drifted off unless I am not remembering correctly. I liked a lot of this movie, but man the ending could have delivered a little bit more.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 1 out of 5 stars (ouchhhhhhhh)
My rating: 3.7 out of 5 stars (Geez guys, it wasn't that bad! It was mid but not thattttt bad sheeeesh)
