Shelby Oaks

I rented this movie off of Prime since I really wanted to see it and it wasn't on any streaming services yet. It is a pretty new movie that I really wanted to see it in theaters but got busy or something so I was glad I was able to rent it and just enjoy it at home. Not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed in the movie. I expected scarier found footage and more of it, but that only made-up parts of the beginning of the movie with some few scattered moments in between. The story follows the disappearance of a group of YouTubers who investigate paranormal things. They last investigated a town called Shelby Oaks where everyone which is like a ghost town. The group was all murdered except for a woman named Riley. Riley's sister is determined to find her and is met by a man who kills himself right in front of her. She discovers a tape in his hand. The tape contains footage of Riley, and it seems like the dude has been put under some sort of "trance?". Anyways, fast forward to where Riley's sister finds a woman in a hut in the woods (not creepy at all) and when she comes in she finds out that she is the mother of the man who shot himself at her door. She also found an album that showed that the guy was trying to impregnate her multiple times and when Mia finally reunites with Riley in the basement, she sees that she is pregnant. She gets her home and Mia lets her stay in the old nursery room (she was also trying to get pregnant), however, when she comes into the room one night she finds Riley about to smother her baby! In an attempt to stop her, Mia pushes Riley out the window where she falls and is eaten by 3 dogs. We find out that the incubus was controlling Mia as well as Riley the whole time and Mia is going to carry out his will now. I assume this means she will nurture and care for the child so that this demon offspring has a chance in the world. The ending was definitely the best part about this movie. I feel like I have been saying that a lot lately on this blog with recent movies, but horror movies are just so slow and ominous now that a lot of them don't pick up speed until the end.

Prime rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars (I agree with this rating. It had some pretty good moments, but I just thought it was hyped up as a found footage horror and there wasn't enough of that for me).
