Late Night with the Devil

Such an entertaining movie!! I absolutely loved the retro cinematography and just some of the sheer overall weirdness. The movie started off pretty tame (like most horror movies) but picked up the pace at a good rate. This is also my third time watching this movie since the first time I wasn't paying attention since I had a friend over and the second time, I just had it on in the background. It was still entertaining the third time! Good job, Shudder. I really like unique movies like this, and they get an A + for creativity. Not going to lie, the ending was not as predictable as I thought it was going to be (another reason why I am praising this movie). The hypnotist deserved it! We have all had a coworker like that where they just know everything and have to be skeptical of every single thing you say. Gus did not deserve it though...poor guy. He knew what was up from the beginning and wanted nooooo part of any of the shenanigans. He was even iffy with the medium! RIP my dude. I mean obviously poor Lilly. She was just a child vessel for a lesser deity of Abraxas. All children deserve an Abraxas-free upbringing and unfortunately, she was chosen to be a brave solider. I want to say poor Jack, but I think the film alludes to the fact that he was more concerned with his show's ratings than his wife, but I guess I empathize a little. It's his job and their livelihood! I am mixed on whether or not he deserves any of my sympathy so I will no longer comment on it. Oh, I guess poor June. She didn't deserve her ending or to be called out by Lilly for wanting to bang the host of the show! For some reason, however, I couldn't give this movie a full on five skulls. I think it needed that extra umph to know in my heart that it is a five skull. Very close though.

Shudder rating: 5 skulls

My rating: 4.5 skulls
