In a Violent Nature
The way I heard this movie described on the Dead Meat podcast is soooo accurate. I 100% agree that this movie is an acoustic Friday the 13th. Did I think this movie was artistically done well? Yes. Did I think this movie had an unique take? Yes. Did I think this movie was too hyped up? Unfortunately, yes. I wanted to like this movie so much more than I did! I liked it...don't get me wrong. I would def rewatch it too, but I heard soooooo much hype about this movie. I was a bit disappointed in the story I guess. It was very knock off Jason and he is even a big, hulky guy like Jason. With that being said, I do think this movie was very intentional with the cinematography and what noises were included in the scenes. The whole point of the movie is to follow the serial killer and see the murder and scenario their their eyes. I wish it was first person and not just following from behind, but then again, you wouldn't get to really see the character. Maybe had some scenes from both vantage points? With allllll of this being said, I am just not a big campy slasher fan in general, but this movie sounded super cool. I did like the mimicked aspect of him having this uncomfortably close relationship with his mommy and resurrecting from the dead like good ol' JV. They were certainly paying homage to the horror icon.
Shudder rating: 4 out of 5 skulls
My rating: 3.5 out of 5 skulls...idk if it's cheating to use half skulls.
