Wolf Man (2025)

You know what? This movie was okay. Wasn't amazing but wasn't terrible either. This film definitely tapped into the emotions a bit more than I expected. I think this movie is very trauma-centered in that we see our main character's childhood is filled with very strict rules and repercussions. Granted, the father is aware of the things that happen in the woods and what is out there, butttt maybe yelling at your kid's face is not the most effective approach. It's really sad to see that the same little boy from the beginning grows up to be a father who also can't seem to control these angry outbursts. He at least acknowledges that he has them and apologizes but it is still not okay. I remember my dad grabbing my hands and yelling at me in front of some stepfamily members at a wedding and that shit really does scare/embarrass you. Anywayssss, the guy, his wife, and his kid go to Oregon because it would be good to get away and they need to go to his dad's house anyways to collect some things. When they go, they are met with this man who claims to know the guy from childhood and is attacked by something mysterious and brutal from the forest. After he is dragged away the rest of the family take shelter in the house, but they do not know that the dad has been affected. This is where there are some cool things happening, but it gets a little muddy and unclimactic. First, it was pretty cool how they showed the perspective of the limited color scheme and glowing eyes of other people. It was like you were looking through the wolf man's eyes. They did a pretty good job with the special effects to make them gradually more canine-like as the transformation continues. That was pretttttty much it though. The movie ends with the mother and daughter ultimately having to make sure the husband is dead to get out of the whole predicament. It's also revealed that the guy had inherited this "wolf-man disease" from his father and was like a benign tumor in his body just waiting to take over. This movie started and ended strong, but they really could have used a bit more story or more climactic scenes in the middle. Not a bad watch for being available on Prime!

Prime rating: 4 out of 5 stars (what?...)

My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars (just because some of the special effects looked pretty neat. Story was average)
