Misery
I really don't know what would be worse. To have what was done to Paul Sheldon in the boooook or the movie. For some reason, the ankle scene in this movie is one of the most haunting scenes in horror to me. Like to the point where I want to walk out of the room every time that scene comes on. I just close my eyes and try to get past that scene because I truly love this movie. This is one of my all-time favorite King movies and books. Kathy Bates is so iconic as Annie Wilks and she really made this movie. The horror of isolation was really highlighted in the film. The feeling of being trapped as prisoner from someone who has a shady ass history is so terrifying to think about. King did a good job in the book (and this was portrayed in the movie as well) of Annie having a side you feel bad for and then a side where you don't recognize her. It's like this complete other side she develop to cope with her shortcomings or insecurities? I can sort of see it as she built this horrendous character that does god-like acts such as take innocent lives to give her something special?? Idk...I'm not sure why I'm going into such psychoanalysis with her. I think she is such an interesting character! Like she's just living out there alone and was once a nurse and has a whole hidden murderous previous life?? I mean if she didn't do that whole ankle thing I would stay for a little while and yapppp. Although I did notice she didn't have any TV for Paul, or books or mags or anything for the poor guy. Like what was he doing all day besides cowering from Annie Wilks?..apparenlty nothing. Well, except when he had to write a whole ass novel for her.
Rotton Tomatoes rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars (very well deserved)
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars...such a cozy classic, plus the last movie I watched with my dog before being put to rest. This will always be a favorite because I'll think about when he just laid on me and I felt so much love for him. Ok I'm done.
