Perfect Blue

What a beautiful, complex, disturbing, confusing story. When I first watched this, I thought that it was more of a story of Mima not being able to deal with being sexually assaulted in the past. The acting scene where she was being r worded and then how her reality became more and more segmented afterwards sort of led me to that. Then the ending happened (famous last words of people that thought they had the film semi figured out). Rumi girllllll you crazyyyyyyy. That's not fair, we all have mental struggles, and a therapist once thought I also had DID because I had a journal where I talked to a character, I had named in myself. It was so hard to tell what was real in this movie with all the cut scenes. Trying to tie in the element of Rumi being Mima's social manager, yet also being an ex-pop idol herself (I think they purposely made her eyes so wide set apart to make her even more jealous of Mima), the Me-Mania guy who apparently was in cahoots with Rumi, but also has his own obsession with Mima, and Mima's ACTUAL mental deterioration from not only transitioning careers, but also getting stalked is extremely difficult. The movie is really a mix of all of the perspectives. The real question is...was it really Mima who left the mental health facility after Rumi was admitted or was it Rumi escaping and being her cute little delusional self? She said it was the real Mima, but the way she said it was hella sus.

Shudder rating: 5 out of 5 skulls
My rating: 5 out of 5 skulls. Such an iconic and original film.
