We're All Going to the World's Fair

The queers love this movie for a number of reasons (before you come after me, I'm also queer...and love this movie lol. Reason number 1, the director is non-binary, and I think they did a phenomenal job especially for this being their feature film. This brings me to reason 2 and I could be totally assuming things about how the director was raised while trying to find their identity. It can be a very lonely experience especially if you already live in sort of a rural place. With that being said, that was the core of the movie. It was really more of the "horror" of isolation and trying to find community amongst the sea of strangers. This was very relevant for people like me who spent many of their high school days talking to random strangers on the internet just wanting to connect with people because I struggled with real-life connection. I think that is what the movie revolved around. The loneliness of a teenager and the loneliness of a much older man that connects with her through this game. I think the setup of the older man's room was very intentional with how they left some of his childhood things in the room. It made it seem like he either never left home or those things actually still carry a meaning with them. Sort of shows the mindset of this man and how he is connected to a younger time in his life which is maybe why he almost becomes obsessed with his interactions with Casey. The ending was a bit confusing (and maybe it's because there is no concrete narrative to tie everything together). How I interpretted it was that JLB made up a story about how he met with Casey again and it was a good interaction. In fact, soooooo good they are going to catch a movie sometime? Seems a bit sus. Again, this guy still seems stuck in a child-like state and might find it normal to want to go to a movie with a high schooler when he is in his 40s or 50s. This shows how incredibly desperate people can get which was much scarier than the actual lore of the creepypasta(esque) game of the World's Fair Challenge. This movie isn't for everyone!

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars!

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars. I think there is a deepness to this movie that makes it unique.
