Y2K

The best thing about this movie was the moment Nick and I both noticed that Tim Heidecker was the dad in the movie lollll like the exact same moment. This movie had a lot of good moments, butttttt it sort of lacked? First thing I want to say, I wish it was just the electronics going nuts and not them turning into monsters. The movie was already kind of hokey (which is fine for a horror comedy!) but it was a like whole additional layer of cheese. As much as I adore cheese, there is such a thing as too much. Yes, I said it...AND I'm from the Midwest. The second thing I want to say is that 90s people are obsessed with nostalgia and they couldn't have added anymore 90s stuff to this movie. Which I love being a 90s kid myself! It was pretty cool to see all those things that are considered "retro" now. I loved the Tamagotchi on top of that little robot car thing that was on a murder spree hahahaha we have all let ours die at some point (probably multiple points) in our lives. I think the main kid (the kid from It) did a good job at playing his best shy boyish role. I don't think he could handle a role where he wasn't biking around the neighborhood constantly. As fun as this movie was, it got sort of serious in the middle and kind of lost its charm. Then it came back and was sort of funny again, but idkkkk something was a disconnect. I feel like it was just sort of a movie thrown together for A24 to portray all the 90s stuff. Maybe I was just expecting more from it?? I don't want to be a hater because A24 has made some of my favorite movies and I love the Y2K theme. I just wanted it to be a bit more unsettling in addition to the humor.

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 3 out of 5 stars

My rating: 3.4 out of 5 stars. Like not quite a 3.5 for some reason. I'll prob watch it again when its free to stream, but I'm not running and tripping over myself to rewatch it.
