Swarm
This hassss to be one of the best shows I've seen in a really long time. I was so engulfed in the show for each episode and those who know me know all about my TV show anxiety. Maybe I just have a fear of commitment? I don't know what it is or if I just have a messed-up attachment style, but this show did not feel like it was dragging on during any moments. The show was also only 7 episodes long which already put my TV show anxiety at ease. The acting in this show was so good! Plus, the fact that most of these episodes were based off of true events made it even more creepy. This show was on my radar before, but a friend and I were celebrating our January bdays together and the topic came up of how weird I thought it was that people had such obsessions with other people when they didn't even know them. I think the topic came up about Taylor Swift and the whole cult mentality. This show really highlighted the real cases of complete obsession over pop stars (specifically Beyonce). It really showed how people can make someone (even a complete stranger they had never met in real life) into something that reflects the version of themself they truly want portrayed. Idk if that makes sense. I guess what I am saying is that it was very evident that Dre did not come from a great childhood and grew up with a loss of self-identity like most kids do when they are simply just trying to survive. This is also the case when love is given conditionally, therefore, a child might mold themselves into whatever they need to in order to receive that love. It truly is sad and something that kids, especially foster kids go through almost inevitably. The ending to this show was sooooo good. The fact that they meshed in Marissa and Nija (I'm sorry I forgot how to spell her name, and I am too lazy to look it up so I will instead write an entire sentence about it) during Dre's obvious breakdown in the very end. I think she was probably knocked unconscious by security since she freaking just walked on stage after stabbing a dude for tickets. She also romanticized her friend Marissa in a way because of the way she made Dre feel so bonded as a sister and friend. I think we are all guilty of putting people on pedestals that make us feel like the version we want the outer world to perceive. To feel included is such a small yearning that we all inherently have as humans. Anyways, this show really set the bar high for other horror shows I will get into this year (yes, I will watch horror TV and not just movies!).
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars...yes, all 5 stars. Absolutely amazing show.
