Companion

Just saw this yesterday in theaters! I love the concept of this movie and what it represents (even if not intentionally). What makes movies like this so damn creepy is that they can be imagined as possible scenarios in the future. We live in a society where robots literally exist (I mean I don't know who they are banging!) I think a lot of people would get this Companion bot if this was an actual product. I mean, you have a thing that dotes on you and can be controlled in every aspect of their lives. I feel like a lot of people (men and women...but a lot of men) are already seeking those qualities. Man, and the fact that you can dumb down the intelligence level really was symbolic for me. When the intelligence was cranked to the full maximum, Iris was far less doting on Josh and knew exactly what was going on. Her self-awareness and general awareness of Josh's actions peaked. I think that's a huge reason why women have been constantly suppressed over time. You do not want the things you want to control to be educated. Didn't Trump say that's why he loves the republicans (...and didn't they all cheer?...like did you hear that he just insulted you?) Ok, let's not get into that. The only thing I will say sort of negatively about the movie is that I found it sorrrrrt of predictable. Like Barbarian had me going ??? and Companion and I was like yup, knew it. Again, this isn't really a terrible thing! I just expected as much of a shock factor as I got from Barbarian. Like that movie was made to make you believe the villain was Bill Scarsgard (I cannot spell his name lollll) just to find there is a wholllllle other story going on. Yes, this movie had some of those elements! I feel after the big drop (finding out Iris and the other dude are bots) the surprise element wasn't as big anymore? Maybe that happened in Barbarian too and I'm just being salty? The end though...mwah! Chef's kiss. It's funny because I was thinking "wow, that's such a cool win bottle opener". Multi-purpose I guess! Another thing I wasn't expecting was that this movie had as much humor as it did! It was pretty campy! I think even campier than Barbarian, but it I think they made it a lot of it work so no complaints.

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars (nice! I also just read the article in Fangoria and that was excellent)

My rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars! I enjoyed this movie and would recommend! Yeah, I gave it a .1 star lower rating lollll
