The Evil Dead (1981)
The makeup in this movie lollll I think they did a pretty good job with the special effects with what they had at the time, but the makeupppp some of the scenes just made the character look super old. I still enjoy the movie! It's pretty campy even if that wasn't really the intent. I think it was supposed to be a little campy but came off campier than what was originally intended. This is just a good ole' hack and slash demon movie (and I think it's known for that). I mean the other Evil Deads are muchhhh gorier, but this one definitely had a lot of action. Gosh and they carry that whole root sexual assault scene into the remake as well. I guess sexual stuff and demons kind of go hand in hand. I'm sorry, if I was SA'd by a freaking root and my own brother/friends didn't try to get out of the forest I think I would have killed them myself. Ok, I have never seen Ash v. The Living Dead or any of the spin-offs but I imagine they are like this with ton of action? I'm not gonna lie, I 'm not the biggest fan of movies that hack just to hack movies (aka movies where there are tons of zombies to kill). A unique element of this movie that makes it memorable is the way the portray the demon running (gliding? flying?) towards scenes and people. That is an element I'm so glad they carried through all three of the Evil Dead movies. It's pretty recognizable and I would know immediately if one of the Evil Dead movies was on if I walked past the TV with one of those scenes. I will say as far as group of young people in the woods movies go, I enjoy this story more than most. I actually prefer it to Friday the 13th (which I have yet to review on here). They really jumped right in. There was barely any time before the demons at least came into play. Some of the other remote cabin in the woods with a bunch of young people horror flicks are lots of random romance scenes (which isn't terrible!) but I like to sometimes get right into the horror. Word of advice: do not let your friends or siblings mess with creepy artifacts like books with covers made out of human flesh.
