Mandy

Woah...this was a trip (as intended because super-concentrated LSD concoctions are consumed by the cenobite bikers). It reminds me of the trippy scenes in Midsommar because the psychedelic drug control is also present in a cult-like scenario in that movie. This movie is sort of made to make the viewers feel like they are in a half reality with a lot of mixing between what is real and what is thought to be perceived. Ok, let's talk about how Mandy ultimately died because she laughed at the main cult leader's wee wee. It really showed how (like most cult leaders) fragile the ego is of someone with so much power and influence over people. If you look at people like Warren Jeffs who really convinced hundreds of people that he had these unique abilities, therefore, he should have unique privileges, you will see the horror of what that dynamic produces. So now we have this cult who works with the biker cenobites (reminds me of the Butcher's Block season of Channel Zero). I personally think this movie could have done without this element and could have just focused on the main cult, but the bikers did add a little fun! The scene that this movie is really known for is the bathroom scene where Cage is RAGING in the bathroom in his underwear while guzzling a bottle of alcohol. Give the guy a break! He just witnessed the love of his life being burned to death by a crazy cult! THEN he has to come back to THEIR empty home and deal with it all?? He deserves all the Cheddar Goblins!! That scene is great though. Myyyyyy favorite scene, however, is the scene at the end where Cage is covered in blood from all the killing he has done, and he smiles at "Mandy" (no one is there) in the passenger seat. When the camera shows the car from the front again you can see that Cage is just cray cray and no one is with him. Even the sky in the last scene alludes to him not fully living in reality. I did not take shrooms or acid while watching this movie, but I think this movie would have def hit different under those influences.

Shudder rating: 5 out of 5 skulls

My rating: 4.5 out of 5 skulls! I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I didn't know what to expect!
