Night of the Living Dead
The fact that the main character was black and still got murdered in the end...wild lol. I will say that it was very "progressive" during that time to put a non-white actor as a lead, but still. This movie was pretty good for being one of the first real zombie films! They made the jerky movements, and undead gazes look decent for what they had to work with at the time. I think the funniest thing about the movie is that if they would have all just stayed in the basement like the annoying dude said at the beginning, they prob could have stayed hidden enough from the undead to leave at a time when they weren't all swarming the house. ALSO, the main character white girl was so useless! Like being shocked is a thing yes, but HELLO, it's survivor time girlie. Lolll the fact that the mom couldn't escape her own small child down in the basement and was fated to die via gardening shovel. OK NO the funniest part was the fact that our main sis got the car after her brother was getting his ass kicked by zombies and then just drove into a ditch/tree after not even a mile?? Then she decided to run by foot?? I wonder what she was thinking while she was doing that part. Was she thinking that she was going to get made fun of for eternity for that part? It's like at the end of Texas Chainsaw...why did they run by foot when they could have driven off?? In fact, our main sis her could have driven off and gotten help (although she wouldn't have known about the survivors in the house...STILL). I can't really say anything too negative about this movie other than the illogical yet funny scenes. I think was actually a little creepy and a good horror film for being so early in the zombie film era. I'm saying this as someone who is not typicallllly a zombie movie fan. The best thing they did in the movie was making the new broadcast the zombie events and make it look real. For people who listened to things like War of the Worlds the first time, it was probably kind of similar to that feeling. We are so used to hearing (well...maybe more back in the day, def not now) factual events that happening on news platforms, it does something to our brain to hear or see obscure events delivered in the same manner.
Shudder rating: 5 out of 5 stars (a classic for sure!)
My rating: 3.7 out of 5 stars (that is a high rating for me for any zombie or old horror film, ok people)
