Nope
Man, I haven't been on here for a while. These gays have DRAINED me this month. I need this day to recuperate before the bigggg weekend coming up lol please help. I liked this movie a lot more the second time I watched it. Or maybe this was my third time...can't remember. The first time I saw this movie I was unemployed and the friend who quit the lab at the same time as me was also unemployed, so we had a little unemployed movie date. I will continue to gripe that they tried to put too much into this movie. They really should have left the whole chimp thing out, howeverrrrr, now that I've rewatched I can sort of see why they included that whole scenario. At first, I thought they put that in there just for more horror for the sake of it, but I think it represents exploiting a dangerous animal (just like Ricky eventually does with the UFO as an adult). Now, what do I think about that shoe that is just standing upright? I think it represents that the mind will remember things that are not possible or accurate when recounting traumatic experiences. There are a lot of elements in this movie that are sort of abstract like that (or at least not obvious to simple folk like me). I really like the neo-western sci-fi theme this movie illustrated. It's a refreshing take on horror (especially in the POC space). I really like the whole idea of the struggling farmers trying to find their big chance by getting the UFO on camera or photographed. The most chilling part about this movie is Jupiter's Claim. Like that place is legit there to just feed this huge ass alien. I was so confused about that scene when I first watched the movie. I was like...are the aliens inside the ship eating them? My mind was not prepared to register the ship as an organic lifeform. I like the resemblance the UFO has to a biblical angel too! There was def some chromatophore action at the end much like a cuttlefish displays when trying to confuse or warn other oceanic life. Wow, now that I'm writing more about this movie the more I think I dig it. I think I just needed to understand what was going on lolllll. I'm really glad I gave this movie another chance. I think a lot of people were skeptical about Nope after Peele's success with his other movies. The concept is def (I wouldn't say newwww), but not a theme that is played out in typical horror. There were a lot of unique elements, and I loved the cinematography of the movie.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 4 out of 5 stars
My rating: 4.1 out of 5 stars (because I can)
