Alien Romulus
Interesting timeline...I had to do some research to confirm when this movie takes place in the Alien Universe and it is about 20 years after the first Alien movie. Ripley is actually floating around in space in her own cryopod as the events unfold. This movie focuses on Rain who is part of the "working class" just like Ripley. She learns in the very beginning of the film that her quota was not yet met, and she must remain in the dismal planet she resides in with many of the other mining community. She and her pals decide that they can get away and seek asylum (essentially) in a far-off planet. Problem is they need some cryopods to successfully travel there. Problem solved though because there are some cyropods (gosh I hope I'm spelling that right by now) in the "spaceship" not too far away. Little does our little diverse gang know that the spaceship is actuallllly more of a station that contains some pretty messed up crap in the labs. Our crew (including our favorite android Andy) finds that one of the labs has literally been 3D printing face huggers and remnants of the old android Rook are on board. One crew member (the movie poster clearly foreshadowing) is immediately attacked by a face hugger and is turned into a living (not for long) incubator with a gestation period of about 30 minutes. Yeah, that thing just burst out of her chest like the freaking Kool-Aid man. Just when we thought the Queen xenomorph was needed to produce eggs and continue the life cycle, we learn that eggs can be formed and hatched without her! Not good news for the passengers. The second lab is where we find a plethora of black goo farming apparatuses. This goo is an integral part of transforming the human physique to endure space. Oh boy do we see this gateway at work. The preggo one in the group is unfortunately subjected to the black goo (she was injected in the neck with it or something?) and, you guessed it, her baby is not only enveloped in the most gothic looking egg casing to exist, but the amniotic fluid (or equivalent) is just straight up acid. That thing is like the size of Shaq in minutes and eats the mother...so that's that. Fast forward to the ending where that weirdo is eventually dropped off via cargo part of the ship while Rain and Andy start a new journey who knows where (sequel??) My favorite part of this movie is seeing Andy switch from being humancentric focused, to corporate baddie, then back to humancentric with less of an altruistic approach.

My rating: 4.1 out of 5 stars (just seemed better than just a straight 4.0)
