It Follows

An interesting take on hauntings via loss of innocence and sexual transmittance. Now, I didn't take this movie to be a literal interpretation of STI's being passed on from one victim to the next, but rather the trauma and not living up the expectations being realized and transferred. Like the fact that sex is literally used to pass on a "curse" (for lack of a better word) rather than be genuine and organic is sort of the main plot. The sex demon can appear as multiple different forms or have no form at all and I think that sort of represents how connections can come as tangible or as just feelings. Sex is such a complicated thing that I think there are many components that go into it mentally before, during and afterwards. Sometimes feelings or people resurface, and I think this movie took a creative turn to make these sex monsters creepy af while still trying to symbolize their representations. Almost the ghosts of all of our romantic pasts will follow us forever sort of vibes. Ain't that true though...that poor nerdy kid wanted to bang that pretty sister the whole time to the point he didn't even enjoy it at the end. The ending was very vague, and I took it as they are battling the sex entities together but aren't really in love. Idk if it was just me, but this movie really drove home how manual sex can be and how primal it really is. Then there was that whole Freudian scene with that kid and his mom dry humping his leg. Gross. I did find the whole pool scene with all the electronics plugged in around the perimeter to be sort of lame. Like idk how else they would get the sex demon(s), but I was like ??? that seems so excessive but like what other traps would I think of to lay out? I liked this movie a lot more the second time I watched it. The first time I don't think I was paying attention as much as I should and I was like this is sort of lame, however, if you actually watch the fricken movie there are a lot of good parts to it!

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 5 out of 5 stars????

My rating: 3.9 out of 5 stars. Good but not amazing to me.
