Suitable Flesh
Yeah, those sex scenes were def uncomfortable. What's funny is that when I was playing Shudder TV non-stop those scenes would always come on and I'd be like ??? This was such an interesting mix of good and bad movie elements. First off, why does this movie look so weird cinematically?? Like why was the quality/acting/scene transitioning so awkward? Idk how to describe it, but it's like this movie is the equivalent of turning on the overhead light in a room. For everyone who has watched this movie, you know why this movie is so uncomfy. So statutory rapey!! Did they add this weird age gap element to just add on for shock factor value? Or maybe to demonstrate that the demon really likes playing around and wrecking freaking havoc in the human world? Either way...gross. I have to admit I am not too knowledgeable about Lovecraftean lore. I think this movie would have hit home a bit more for me if I understood some of the context a bit more. I did really like the whole transferring of the demon from host to host, and I thought that the actors did a decent job at playing themselves and the demon hosted version of themself. You have to pay attention though! There is a lot of switching around and the demon is only allowed to transfer 3 times before it becomes permanently bonded to the host. With that being said I really loved the ending of this movie. I think that it was the best part of the movie! The poor doc friend who got stuck in her friend's body in a psych ward (in isolation even!) and the doc friend being hosted by the demon was pretttttty messed up. I think this is one of those movies that people either loved or hated and I def don't think it deserved the hate it got from some people. I will let people hate though!
Shudder rating: 3 out of 5 skulls
My rating: 3.6 out of 5 skulls (it was pretty entertaining! Just...awkward)
