The Dead Thing

Is everyone getting ghosted because there are literally ghosts on the apps?? Explains a lot. This was sort of a play on getting "ghosted" but in the opposite sense in what we know it as today. The ghost in this case literally becomes obsessed. This movie was definitely focused on the toxicity of relationships and how they linger/drain people. This movie also just focuses on the dangers of obsession and how it can destroy lives. Alex is the girl who becomes obsessed with Kyle first but then Kyle becomes obsessed with her. It also shines a light on the loneliness of the modern dating world. People often become obsessed with those that are not quite compatible because it is so exhausting to date today (especially on the apps). The twist in the movie is that we learn that Kyle died right before meeting Alex and Alex has been banging his ghost version. It's kind of another nod to today's dating where everyone seems so emotionally unavailable. As the movie progresses, Kyle becomes more controlling and eventually completely overbearing. He seems to gain strength every time he is intimate with Alex and Alex is seen being physically drained. She is so drained she didn't even realize she missed a whole week of work! The D was that good. Kyle actually becomes so powerful that he is able to physically strangle Alex to death. The last scene of the movie shows that Alex has been faced with the same fate as Kyle as is on a date as a ghost herself. Ok, so I thought this movie was decent, but not as good as I wanted it to be. It was unsettling, yes, but I wanted a bit more wtf moments. This was a very poetic horror film in my opinion.
