Carrie (2013)
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this one yet. I recently rewatched it so what better time than now to judge it. This is actually one of the few remakes I like better than the original! It's also one my favorite King books. I think what I love about this story the most is how powerless Carrie appears in the beginning but then you see what she is capable of. Love those types of stories. Carrie is such an interesting story. We have Carrie White who has suppressed telekinesis powers she has yet to fully unleash (until the end obviously). Then we have her religiously crazed mother who wanted to kill Carrie from the moment she was born (thankfully her telekinesis powers saved her). She tells Carrie nothing about growing up as a woman and leaves her pretty sheltered. She also goes through a ridiculous and harsh punishments. Carrie is an outcast at school since she has no real social skills or can relate to any of her classmates. She is eventually asked to prom by a super popular dude at school who has forced to do so by his girlfriend. She reluctantly accepts but the kids who have it out against her at school have some plans for her...yup the whole pig blood scene. The iconic bucket drop of allllll that blood just pouring down on her. That's when Carrie finally unleashes the darkest side of her. Yeah, those kids and teachers were in bigggggg trouble. So many deaths. The end is pretty symbolic of Carrie's mom stabbing her in the back (literally) and Carrie using her powers to pin her against the wall with knives. Once she sees that the damage she has done is going to actually kill her mother she can't leave her, so the house just crumbles on top of them. It's almost like they couldn't live with or without each other.
IMDb rating: 5.8 out of 10 stars
My rating: 7.9 out of 10 stars (I like it, but it is a little tame)
