Clown
Definitely messed up someone's Netflix algorithm watching this one lollll. I have to say that this was kind of interesting take on the age-old clown horror genre. Plus, I didn't know this was an Eli Roth film! I like the whole take on wearing demon skin and that clowns originated from these frozen, baren lands. It also just makes sense that clowns eat kids! It's like...why are they always around them? There were so many cheesy parts to this movie though. In all fairness, Eli Roth has a certain level of cheese to his films I feel. Like why did the wife just let this dude just fall asleep on the couch with full clown makeup and costume? Not that it's her job to make sure her husband changes, but I would check on my partner and be like why are you not coming to bed? Someone please promise me that if I fall asleep in clown get up, to please make me change and wash up. I feel torn about this movie, because it has a lot of good elements to it. I like the whole idea of having to behead the demon in order to stop the demon from taking over completely. On the other hand, this guy's whole transformation into the demon clown was a bit too comical for a horror that wasn't really slap-stick? I would describe this movie as a fun little watch. It was literally just on Netflix and had been advertised to me for a little while, so it was just time to dive in. This is a film that I feel would be really good as a book. So much more lore could be fit in and more can be left up to the imagination. I also didn't realize that this film derived from a short film called either "Clown" or "The Clown" or something. Idk, wasn't amazing but really wasn't bad and I enjoyed it. Would I go around recommending like I do with some other movies? No, but if some asked if was worth a watch I would say yes.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars
My rating: 3.2 out of 5 stars. Refreshing take on clown horror but didn't wow me.
