Moloch
Ok, this was a confusing movie and I thoughtttt I understood then thought maybe I didn't and now think I do again? Let's start from the beginning. I feel like I need to process this whole movie on here. We have B, her parents, and her daughter in the Netherlands. The bog they live near has petrified bodies and archeologists were called to investigate. We find that they all have a vertical slit on their throat (very sinister). During this time, the mom is exhibiting strange symptoms, and we also discover that the bodies are all women of different generations. When the daughter has her school play, we are explained the lore of Feike and Helen. Helen was the Queen, and the King had fallen in love with Feike (a servant at the time). Helen and the King were very wealthy and ran the town dry btw. Helen was obviously very jealous when Feike got pregnant by the King and put her in the dungeons claiming she had put a spell on him. Feike really wanted to get out, so she prayed to a god and Moloch answered. Moloch would not only claim her child's soul, but the souls of children to come. Feike eventually slit her own throat and as she did, Helen fell onto the floor as her soul exited her body. Feike was able to take control of her body, and they ruled the land for the better apparently. She was a freaking hero. However, her spirit and Helen's spirit still reside in the bog. Helen ultimately takes hold of the mom's body (killing the husband) and slits her throat in front of B. If that wasn't traumatizing enough, Helen sacrificed B's soul (since she is the offspring of the mother who had just sacrificed herself). B's soul is seen at the very end with the rest of the women's souls in the bog while her child is seen with the spirit of Feike. Ok, in my head I am just picturing that Feike is able to actually to enter the bodies of these women and live out their lives and Helen can kind of just control them but not enter them? If you are an expert on this movie, please explain. I am too lazy to look it all up at this point lolllll
Shudder rating: 4 out of 5 skulls
My rating: 4.3 out of 5 skulls (great story and some pretty good unsettling parts!)
