Poltergeist (1982)
"They're hereeeee" man, it has been such a long time since I've seen this movie. It's a classic, for sure, and I can see why people freaking love this movie. It's a bit spot on the nose Spielberg for me, but it was well done for the most part. I guess I can see why it stood the test of time. We start with this normal lookin' family in a normal lookin' house in the suburbs. Thennnn we start to see funky things start to happen in this house. First off, the TV shouldn't have otherworldly hands reaching out from it. Second, trees shouldn't be grabbing and taking little boys away from their rooms. Third, things should not be spinning around in a room. Fourth, there shouldn't be a literal portal from an upstairs bedroom to the living room. I could continue on, but these are just some of the odd things going on in the household. Then they bring in the paranormal team and medium. The fam is informed that is not a haunting (which is more tied to the house), but a poltergeist (which is more attached the people). Not gonna lie, I forgot how the little girl ended up in the realm beyond. She was def not in the same world as the rest of her fam though. The family tries to be with her by leaving the TV on as sort of interface for her to use. They finally formulate a plan for the mom to go into this other realm while being tied to a rope. She is successful and gets her daughter back, but the spirits do not stop. As they are about to move, the house is taken over once again by the poltergeist. Apparentlyyyyy, the dude who was supposed to move the burial site nearby only moved the tombstones like dummy and left the bodies there. The family manages to escape for the last time and go to motel room as refuge. The ending scene is sort of iconic with the dad removing the TV from the room. DAD HAS HAD ENOUGH!
IM Db rating: 7.3 out of 10 stars
