Terrified
Wow, I really need to watch more Spanish horror. I didn't know what to expect at all going into this movie and damn, some of those scenes were legit creepy! The story is based on a neighborhood in Mexico that has been experiencing some paranormal nonsense. People in a certain vicinity are being paranormally affected in various ways. The first, people are straight up being possessed and thrown into walls (never a good sign). Then we have the three paranormal investigators who know that a case like this happened in the US, so they are interested in knowing more about the case. Then the big event (well, one of them). A small child is hit by a car after backing away from a voice. This is of course a very sad event but then the boy is seen sitting at the kitchen table. He is definitely possessed and definitely dangerous (already killed an innocent classmate). Then the story sort of shifts to trying to understand these dark entities are where they come from. The demon on the movie poster is a reoccurring creature that shows up throughout the movie. The investigators also either become possessed or lost in the "dark" dimension. We find that out at the end of the movie that the demonic entities from the other dimension are coming through a portal and manifesting through the water. The little boy drank some tap water before he was killed. The wife in the beginning, I believe, had some water as well before being thrown around the walls. It's almost like bacteria being introduced into an organism or environment and they start building colonies. That combined with the lack of ability to let go of loved ones. I feel like that gave the little boy a lot of power because the mother couldn't let him go. Like she literally couldn't bury him or leave him underground. I heard they are making a sequel to this movie pretty much exactly where they left off at the end, so I am pretty stoked!
Shudder rating: 4 out of 5 skulls
My rating: 4.2 out of 5 skulls (just slightly above because I can)
