Mother!

Finally getting to this movie review. I swear this movie lives rent free in my head and I honestly don't mind. It is such a good movie! It's one of those movies that you pick up on more things every time you watch. Lots and lots of biblical symbolism so it helps knowing that when you go into the movie. I remember being so lost the first time I watched because I went in blindly. As you should! Ok let's get down to it. We have Mother and I think God is referred to as "Him". They are the main couple, and Mother is supposed to represent Earth. From the very beginning we can see that Him has a lot of love for Mother but only if it favors himself. We are then met with a man who is literally just called "Man" I think and is supposed to be a literal representation of mankind intruding on Earth. Him already shows the utmost hospitality towards Man no matter how it affects Mother. Then we have a bunch of biblical figures make a series of long welcomes into Mother's home. As the film goes on these guests become more and more entitled to Mother's home (sound familiar?). Not to mention, Mother and Him have not been intimate and when they finally are Mother is immediately pregnant. This brings Him so much joy he begins to write again (the New Testament when Jesus is born). This is basically where Him becomes so consumed with the love of mankind that he neglects Mother and the safety of their child. I mean...God did sacrifice his only son to save humanity from their sins. That is literally what happens in the film. The baby is stolen from Mother and passed around where he is eventually torn apart and eaten (because Christians eat the body and blood of Jesus like no biggie). The ending is pretty epic. Mother goes ballistic and sets herself, the house, and everyone in it ablaze. Him is not affected (because he is God). He takes Mother's heart (which is like a crystal) and pretty much starts the cycle again with a new Mother. Man, I love all the symbolism in this movie. It is really brilliant!

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

My rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars (such an uncomfortable movie lol)
