Paranormal Activity

I remember when people thought this was such a scary movie lolllll. I mean sure there are some parts that are creepy for sure, but I specifically remember trailers for this movie showing people leaving the theater because they were so scared. That's a bit dramatic. This movie was definitely one of the trailblazers for found footage horror movies and the start of the whole Paranormal Activity saga. Ok, I do like how they started sort of in the middle of the story with Kate being an adult and the hauntings still happening to her from when she was 8 years old. It makes the other PA movies sort of fall into place. It's like it started out with Episode 4 then released 1-3 after 5-6. What I also really like about this movie is that it took place in normal suburbia. It made it seem as if these hauntings weren't just bound to creepy houses in secluded areas. This looked like a normal freaking house in the middle of a subdivision. This was also an extremely low-budgeted movie (I think only around $15K was used, but then Paramount spent like $200K on the ending??). The ending was good (for its time) but now it just looks so cheesy. I still like it though! There is nothing really unique about this film other than it was fun and it was all the rage when it came out. I think it was one of the first movies where we see someone just standing over someone for long periods of time and that alone was such a creep factor. I did not see this movie in theaters when it came out so idk if that would have made it scarier? I mean probably. It's def geared for jump scares and just the general related feeling the viewers get when watching these events unfold in a normal neighborhood. I'm on the PA train now so more PA reviews to come! This was just the surface and one of the movie franchises where I am glad they did a number of movies because we have to learn more about Toby!

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 4 out of 5 stars (I'm surprised!)

My rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars (I had to add the zero in the tenths place to indicate I do not view this movie any higher or lower than any .1 deviation)
