Ringu 2

This movie sort of made me feel dumb because I had a really hard time following what was going on. I'll do my best to sort of recap what went on in this movie. This movie is basically the Yoichi's journey in which he is the only survivor of watching Sadako's tape. This comes with him inheriting some of Sadako's powers and also harnessing her hate. Keep in mind this is the little boy of the reporter in the last movie. Well, I guess the little boy is saved because his mom showed her dad the tape and he died, but it is a little confusing because when Sadako climbs halfway up the well in one of the last scenes, she asks "Why were you the only one saved?" before comically plunging back into the water. This sequel picks back up right where the first Ringu ended and that is when she is taking her son to grandpa's house to show him the tape. We have a concerned coworker along with another girl who is concerned about where she went. The fellow reporter is interested in the tape and interviews a girl who said she watched and promised to watch it so the curse would pass from her and then just locked it in a drawer?? I love how that girl gets her vengeance though. That has to be one of the creepiest scenes in J-horror to me. Ugh when her shoulders are just glitching going up and down...gives me the creeps! lol. I love the very last scene of the movie where the reporter went insane and sees her ghost behind him doing her creepy little face. Dude totally deserves it. I also really like how they got the niece's friend back in the movie; however, it was a little confusing with how she had some of the powers. I guess it's like Voldemort give HP some powers by exposing them to him? Still was a nice add in to the movie. Ok wait, now I am having a memory surface in the movie to where the love of each parent has saved Yoichi from the wrath of Sadako so there is another reason why is still surviving. His mom's death was pretty confusing too as she was halluscinating about her dad and then died because she had walked into the street while doing so? You know what? I have to stop asking questions. J-horror is very much it is what it is and why are you asking questions. So I'll stop!

Shudder rating: 4 out of 5 skulls

My rating: 3.5 out of 5 skulls. Once I sort of grasped what was going on I think I realized they put in a lot of cool elements and enjoyed it. I did have to watch this 2 times in a row for some context.
