Rosemary's Baby (1968)

Well, I survived Halloween 2025. Let's get back to it. For being a 60's horror flick, this movie is pretty creepy! I really love this film and can see how it became an inspiration for a lot of other horror movies. This was pretty risky for its time! This movie really showed how much women were controlled back in the day. Like 1968 was not that long ago and Rosemary is treated like a child by not only her husband, but her doctor, her neighbors...etc. Don't get me wrong, women are still pretty controlled today, but if someone saw a girl get treated the way she was it would definitely raise some eyebrows today. Man, if Rosemary was aware of the word "gaslighting" during her time...she was literally gaslit the entire movie by everyone around her. I take most horrors very literally, but I can also see how this movie could be about fear of motherhood kind of like Eraserhead to fatherhood. I lean more of the side of this movie being intended to being taken literally. It brought out the fear in plain sight sort of horror genre. Satanic things can take place in the big city just like Paranormal Activity made us scared in our own homes in the suburbs. So, the movie didn't really go into details about how the husband got involved with the whole cult, but I think it is pretty heavily implied that he made some sort of deal with the cult for career reasons. Like the lead character mysteriously became blind right before the play? Pretttttty fishhhhy. Seems like he orchestrated this whole thing himself. This is why I don't trust men lol. At least Rosemary sort of woke up and decided to not trust anyone at the end, but it was sort of too late, you know, since she had Satan's baby and all that. Mom's gotta be a mom, I guess. That would be a pretty tough decision. Like I guess I gave birth to this living thing even though it's Satan's son. Poor Rosemary. She's just a girl. Hail, Adrian!

IMDb rating: 8 out of 10 stars

My rating: 8.6 out of 10 stars. Done very beautifully and a really brave film for its era.
